Cervices commonly called as mouth of the uterus will have a sensitive lining of the cells which are prone for malignancy called as Cervical cancer.
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer in women in India. Unfortunately most of the cervical cancers are detected at the later stage wherein giving treatment either surgery or medical mode (Chemotherapy) is difficult.
Prevention is better than Cure. Cervices have to be screened regularly for detecting regular cancer at frequent intervals. Hence some the screening methods like Pap smear, HPV DNA test etc. are recommended, to begin with at 21 years of age and recommended every 3 years for 60 years of age.
Some of the vaccines are also available under different trade names recommended for the adults between 9-15 years of age (before they get exposed to sexual activity).
