Increase in blood pressure more than 140 systolic pressure and 90 diastolic pressure constitutes Hypertension.
There are 2 types of hypertension namely Primary and Secondary Hypertension.
- Primary Hypertension is familial i.e. hereditary related. 90% of hypertension is Primary hypertension.
- Secondary Hypertension is due to renal causes, hormonal causes and cardiac causes.
Any person having hypertension more than 140/90 mmHg on three different occasions requires hypertension treatment.
In elderly patients, treatment is started when blood pressure is more than 150/90 mmHg.
Symptoms of hypertension include:
- Acute/Chronic headache
- Blurring of vision
- Swelling of legs
- Extreme tiredness
Untreated/unattended hypertension can lead to kidney failure, cardiac failure and eye related problems.
